Antique Effect
I use the Americana Gel Stains to tint the surface of acrylic paintings, thereby giving the surface an "antiqued" effect. The gel is slightly tinted with color and can be wiped on with fingers or a soft rag, or brayered for a textured effect.
Gem of a Gel
I was skeptical about using a gel stain, but I was blown away! At first it looks a bit scary, like a regular acrylic paint. But once you wipe the excess, it gives a great rich look! Better control than traditional stain, quicker dry time, no harsh odor.
Americana Gel Stain
I replaced a table top on an antique bakers table. I had never stained raw wood before. It was so easy! It went on smoothly with no odor and dried quickly. I used water based poly and it turned out very nice.
Fabulous stain but dilute for big projects
Excellent stain, thick and doesn’t run, and fantastic for small projects Tips for bigger projects:
- dilute with some water to more paint consistency this helps make less waste, increases time to wipe, more even color
- wait 24 hrs between coats
Great option to oil based stain
I renovate dollhouses. I tried this product on some unfinished furniture and was pleasantly surprised. It’s very cold in my garage right now and I was able to use this water based product in my studio.
Unsatisfactory
I had previously used only oil-based stains to antique painted bisque ware. This stain dries too fast to effectively wipe off for an evenly finished color. Even using water, it is blotchy and uneven. My project does not look good.
