Use as a sketchbook
The paper doesn’t mix well with watercolor. It comes out dry and streaky looking. Paper MATTERS when you’re using watercolor and it was my fault for trusting paper that’s not at least 50% cotton lol. Pen/pencil works well on it
Use the book
I like this watercolor book. I'm not the best painter, probably don't use the correct amount of water and paint. The paper may buckle a little, learn to use clips. For the price, it's a dependable item for it's use.
Good Urban Sketch Book & your skill & paint matter
This is a sketch book that will support "some" wash, NOT multiple washes. It's perfect for that, particularly urban sketching. You draw & apply "some" color. If you buy this thinking you are getting 300 lb Arches cold press 100% cotton, you're goofy.
good for the price
This is a $7.50 watercolor journal that is pretty nice looking and I feel like it performs well. It can handle wet on wet nicely. I prefer this paper over canson xl for watercolor. I've also used gouache in it. I'm on my second one! I love the size.
Great Little Affordable Watercolor Sketchbook
Paper feels nice and it's hot press. I painted an autumn leaf with a wet on wet technique and it turned out beautifully! I used high quality watercolors with moderate water. No streaking and realistic effects. Slight buckling while wet - dried flat.
Best book for price
I use these books for urban sketching. They work well with permanent markers, ink wash markers and alcohol markers as well. I'd go medium to light wash if your going full page.
No info on what paper this is..
I can guarantee that it’s not cotton. sketchbook would be good for beginning artists but never put your expensive fine art watercolors on this paper. The way the paint dries on this paper is completely unpredictable and streaky. I am a professional.
Great, but Has Unacceptable Flaw
Great for watercolor especially for cellulose paper. I loved it and ordered 6 more on sale to use as my go-to sketchbook. Unfortunately, the latest batch has a terrible bathroom odor. Really strong smell that hasn't gone away after a month. So sad!
Not good for watercolor
Paint doesn’t bloom, can’t hold any water, paper pills and cannot use frisket or watercolor masking fluid. Tape rips paper as well. You could use gouache on this, with very little water
Unexpected paper quality
Book itself is beautiful. The paper is strange, it seems like there is a 'back' and a 'front' to each spread, so one will be nicer watercolor paper and the next is an odd pilling texture. It'll do for gouache studies. $6 on sale can't complain too much :
