Arches sold to other company (ies); quality uneven

sorry to read that a customer paid more than $8 for a full sheet of 140 lb. cold press Arches paper. It is not as reliable as it once was. probably best to be sure of quality. But you will pay more unless you buy quantity.

poor quality

I've used Arches watercolor papers before and I never had any problems with it before. After I did a wash, the paper buckled heavily and the first layer of pulp peeled off. Arches is not suppose to do that. It's a waste of money.

My Favorite Paper

I have used Arches watercolor paper for years. I have tried other brands but always come back to it. I am sorry to hear that the quality might be slipping. They need to keep a good thing going!

Need to check #

Arches is amazing. The # needed is 300, this is only #140. Good for practice etc, need to hit an actual art supply store to get the actual Arches #300

paper not cotton? From professional

Arches is cotton rag not "Paper". Why is this "Canson" brand and states Arches? This explains the issues. I bought one sheet 300 lb. Painted full sheet. Had masking on the face, 0nly one square inch of entire painting. PAPER PEALED OFF. RUINED.

Unsized and Unusable

I was so excited to use this paper. I made it into a sketchbook, and as soon as I put water on the paper, I knew something was wrong. The paper seemed to be falling apart. This isn't what all Arches is like. I have a pad and it doesn't do this. Do not buy

Not the Arches I like

I work on this paper a lot. This is not the same paper you can buy from other art stores. Don't know what is different but it doesn't perform as well, something is off definitely. I regret buying this to save a few dollars. Lesson learnt.

My favorite texture for watercolors

Arches never fails my concept! I like to use Daniel Smith granulated colors & some salt too. The bright white paper color makes it easier to digitize my work.

Hobby Lobby does have Arches!

In stores Hobby Lobby offers both 140lb and 300lb Cold Pressed watercolor paper. They also offer Hot Pressed in 140lb. Look for the imprinted Arches watermark in the corner.

Beware of old paper

Since Hobby Lobby does not sell a lot of higher quality art supplies, these will often sit in the store for a very long time and lose their sizing. I am sure of this because I bought the end of their Canson Heritage stock which absorbed the paint.
