Yarnology 1.65 mm Steel Hook
I bought this to replace my Boye hook that I lost. Boye has shortened the shafts on their hooks so when I saw this hook, I thought it would be a great replacement. And,it would be except the hook itself is not deep enough and the thread keeps sliding off
Hook too shallow
Hook is too shallow, hard to keep thread on hook.
Hook too shallow
Bought one to use in place of my possibly-antique Boye 1.9mm and the hook is way too shallow and the thread just slides off. Should have known better with Hobby Lobby's cheaply made stuff. Pretty unimpressed.
It works for me!
Unlike previous reviews, I found this Yarnology hook very easy to work with. So far, I've tried sizes 0 and 5 and I haven't had any problem in keeping my thread on hook. I'm very happy with my Yarnology hooks. Not fancy, but functional.
Hook is shallow
I got the 1.5 and it's pretty terrible, to be honest. The thread is very difficult to keep on the hook and makes my work go very slow.
Yarnology crochet hooks
Yarnology are the only crocheting hooks I choose to use for my projects. The pointy tips get in each space with no issues.
Works better for the way I crochet
I love this hook. It glides effortlessly through the stitches. It doesn't snag, catch or split the yarn. The flat part of the handle is closer to the head, which is better for my small hands and the higher, more knit style way I hold the hook.
Inline vs. tapered
There are two types of crochet hooks: inline and tapered, and people seem to have a definite preference. Boye crochet hooks are tapered, for example, whereas Susan Bates are inline. Tons of info online, but this could explain bad reviews vs. raves.
will not go through bead
I use crochet hooks to place beads in my knitting. The instructions recommended a .75 mm hook but I could not put this hook through my 8/10 bed. I had a 1.00 mm Boyd hook and was able to load without a problem. I suspect the sizing is off.
Does it's job
I got a 2.25mm hook & it works fine! The hook is short in length than my usual hooks which can make it a bit hard to find in my cup of hooks. This hook is also tapered so if you're used to Susan Bates' hooks then you might want to stick with them!
